Snow in Burbank

Today at around 5 pm, it snowed here in Burbank, CA. You might say, so what? Because it never snowed here before, not since 1949.

And because of this strange occurrence, the residents ran outside their houses to enjoy it. That included me.

After living in Edmonton, Alberta for more than six years, this should not have been a big deal anymore. I’ve seen and experienced worst winter in Canada.

So what was the excitement all about? It’s the joy of watching people experiencing winter fun, with children and parents alike throwing and dodging snow balls against each other, while others built snowmen.

Superstorm Warning in California

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has just released a report about a massive “superstorm” that could flood a quarter of the state’s homes and cause $300 billion to $400 billion in damage. A team of 117 scientists and experts ¬†point out that the potential scale of destruction in this storm scenario is four or five times the amount of damage that could be wrought by a major earthquake.

Scientists with the U.S. Geological Survey warned federal and state emergency officials that such “superstorms” have happened in the past, and should be added to the long list of natural disasters to worry about in California.
