The Original Kung Dang Thai Restaurant

14 Mar

Last weekend, we had a surprise party for my nephew’s 21st birthday at the Original Khun Dang Thai Restaurant on Sepulveda just south of Roscoe.

We held the party in the karakoe room to give us privacy. The room is modestly but nicely decorated. There’s even a fireplace which gives a homey feeling and cozy vibe to it.

His dad, who is my brother arranged for a dinner buffet which consist of tom yum koong (shrimp with mushroom, lemon grass and lime juice in piquant soup), pad thai (rice noodles with  onion, bean sprout, egg and ground peanut), chicken pineapple curry, salted fish fried rice, chinese broccoli with crispy pork and beef jerky.

The buffet table is strategically placed for the guests’ easy access and the staff, as well, for food refills. The staff even put a nice centerpiece of flowers and candles. On the side are four different sauces to complement the dishes on the guests’ own liking.

The place is small but definitely BIG in flavors. Everything is delicious. Khun Dang is definitely the place to go when you need some quality, clean comfort food. The service is exceptional and the staff is very friendly and polite.

And another bonus! Kung Dang is the only Thai restaurant (that I know of) which offer bottomless Iced Tea refills. Isn’t that great?

The place is open from 11AM-10PM, 7 days a week. If you haven’t been there before, try their lunch special (11AM-3PM) at a very affordable price of either $5.95 or $6.95.

Bottomless iced tea? For real? I’ll go there for sure.

It’s funny that pad thai is equivalent to pancit, tom yum to sinigang and iced tea to sago. Different nationalities but similar cuisine. No complaints though. Good foods from two different countries.

I have always been a big fan of Asian foods. I’ll definitely try this place.

We will have our next date at Kung Dang. We’re tired of Denny’s, Carrows, Coco’s and IHOP. No more American foods for us.
